Does Your Xiaomi Have eSIM? Models and Setup

The honest answer: many Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones have no eSIM at all. Xiaomi reserves it for its flagships and for some fairly recent models, and the same model can come with or without it depending on the region it was sold in. Run the check in this guide before you buy; an eSIM bought for a phone that cannot hold one cannot be installed.
Models that support it (the broad picture)
- Xiaomi 13, 13T and 13T Pro and the flagships since: the 14, 14 Ultra and 15 series
- Some Xiaomi 12 variants, depending on the region

The same model can differ between country versions, so rather than trusting a list, look at the phone itself.
The definitive check (30 seconds)
- Open Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks ("Mobile networks" on HyperOS).
- Look for "Add eSIM" or "Manage eSIM".
- Alternatively, dial *#06# in the phone app; if an EID number appears, the phone has eSIM hardware. If it does not, it has none.
No EID? Do not despair: a physical tourist SIM is still an option, or choose an eSIM-capable phone next time. If someone in your family has an eSIM-capable phone, the plan can be used on that one instead.
Setup (on supported models)
- Open the QR code on another screen, or print it.
- Go to Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks → Add eSIM → Scan QR code.
- Confirm the install; the eSIM appears in the SIM list as a new line.
Travel settings
- Set the eSIM as the default card for Mobile data.
- For the eSIM line, Data roaming: ON; abroad, the eSIM works as a roaming line, and this does not cost extra.
- For your home SIM, Data roaming: OFF; leave the line on so calls and bank texts keep arriving.
