Seven borders, one setup

The classic grand Balkan tour enters through Bulgaria and runs down through Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia to Greece. The coach crosses six or seven borders in 7 to 10 days, and at every one your phone joins a new country's network.

Roaming on your home SIM is billed country by country, and five of these seven countries sit outside EU roaming altogether, so even a European roaming add-on usually stops at the Serbian border. Buying a local SIM at every kiosk eats most of each rest stop. A regional Europe eSIM solves this at the root: set it up once and it joins the local network in every country on the route by itself.

5 GBfor a 10-day tour

How much data do you need?

With maps, WhatsApp, social media and photo sharing, 5 GB is comfortable for most travellers. If you make frequent video calls or upload reels, 10 GB is the safe choice.

Frequently asked

Do I need to do anything to the eSIM when crossing a border?

No. The regional eSIM is valid in every country in its coverage area. Once you cross the border, your phone joins the new country's network by itself.

Should I switch my home SIM off during the tour?

No need. Just turn off data roaming on your home SIM. Your number stays open for calls and texts, such as bank verification codes.

Not every Balkan country is in the EU; is that a problem?

No, it is exactly why a regional eSIM makes sense. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia are outside the EU roaming agreements, and most carrier roaming passes either exclude them or charge more there. These packages cover all of them.

What if the tour runs long or I run out of data?

You can add a top-up from the app. There is no need to set the eSIM up again.
