City to islands, one setup

Honeymooners and backpackers follow much the same route: a few days among the temples and street food of Bangkok, then south to the sea at Phuket, Krabi or the islands. In ten days you see two different Thailands; one a city, one a paradise.

In Thailand, internet is almost as basic for a visitor as water: the taxi is called Grab and is not hailed without the app, boat trips are confirmed by message, and plans between islands change constantly. You will also want family on the other side of the world to hear your voice every evening. At this distance your home carrier's roaming is at its most expensive, often a daily pass that adds up over ten days; with the Thailand eSIM you are on a local network the moment the plane lands at Suvarnabhumi.

5 GBfor a 10-day holiday

How much data do you need?

For a ten-day Thailand holiday, 5 GB is a good start; it carries Grab, maps, messaging and plenty of photo sharing. If you will make video calls every day or upload stories and reels, choose 10 GB; do not rely on hotel Wi-Fi on the islands.

Frequently asked

Is there signal on the islands and on the boat?

In tourist areas like Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui, coverage is city quality. On boat trips between islands the signal can weaken in open water and returns as you near the shore. In remote coves reception can drop; that applies to every operator.

Do Grab and similar apps work smoothly with the eSIM?

Yes. The eSIM is an ordinary mobile data connection; Grab, maps, translation and booking apps all work. In Thailand, Grab is usually both cheaper and clearer than haggling for a tuk-tuk.

Can I keep using WhatsApp on my own number?

Yes. The eSIM only provides internet; your WhatsApp keeps working on your home number exactly as before. There is nothing extra to do for messaging and video calls with family.

Do I need separate packages for Bangkok and the islands?

No; the Thailand eSIM is valid across the whole country. Whether you head north to Chiang Mai or south to the islands, the same package works.
