Four capitals, one setup

The classic Central Europe route starts on the banks of the Danube in Budapest, pauses for the castle in Bratislava, passes through Vienna's palace gardens, catches its breath under the spires of Prague and, on most tours, ends in Munich. Five countries, four capitals and a Bavarian finale in 8 or 9 days.

The whole route is inside the EU and Schengen, but that does nothing for your home SIM: a UK, US, Canadian or Australian carrier charges its own roaming rate in every one of these countries, usually by the day, and five countries in nine days adds up fast. With the regional Europe eSIM one package works without a break across all five; the train from Vienna to Prague and the coach from Prague to Munich cross the border with your map still open.

5 GBfor a 9-day tour

How much data do you need?

For a 9-day tour, 5 GB is comfortable: city maps, public transport apps, museum tickets and social media included. If you plan to stream films on the intercity trains, go up to 10 GB; or save the train for the view.

Frequently asked

Does the internet drop when the train or coach crosses a border?

No, apart from a brief network handover. The regional eSIM uses partner networks in all five countries; when the train enters a new country, your phone joins the local network within a few seconds. No reinstall, no settings.

Do the city transport apps (BKK, Wiener Linien, PID, MVV) work with the eSIM?

Yes; the eSIM is an ordinary mobile data connection, so every app works, including ticket purchase and validation. Use BKK in Budapest, Wiener Linien in Vienna, PID Lítačka in Prague and MVV in Munich without worrying about losing the connection.

I am adding Poland or Switzerland to my route; does the same package cover them?

Yes. The regional Europe eSIM we recommend covers more than forty European countries, including Switzerland, which is outside the EU; a detour to Kraków or an extension to Zurich runs on the same package.

What do I do if I run out of data mid-tour?

You can add a top-up before the package runs out; there is no need to delete or reinstall the eSIM. Two minutes on the hotel Wi-Fi and it is done.
