A weekend away, one setup
Grab your passport and go: no visa for most Western passports, a short flight from much of Europe, and a city that is easy on the wallet. Belgrade has become one of the best-value weekend breaks on the continent; three days is enough to look down on the rivers from Kalemegdan, settle in for long dinners in the kafanas and end the night on the splav barges along the Sava.
The part you do not see: Serbia is outside the EU roaming zone. A data connection left on by mistake on your home SIM turns a cheap weekend into an expensive lesson, and most packages that lean on 'Europe' coverage leave Serbia out. Set up the Serbia eSIM before you board; calling a taxi, checking a restaurant and sharing your location should be no trouble from the first minute.
How much data do you need?
For a three-day city break, 3 GB is more than enough: maps, messaging, photos and plenty of stories fit in easily; you will not have to think about it even on video calls.
Frequently asked
Is Belgrade really visa-free?
For most Western passports, yes; UK, US, Canadian, Australian and EU citizens enter Serbia visa-free for tourist stays. On the eSIM side there is no ID or registration either; the QR code arrives by email after payment.
I have a Europe eSIM; will it work in Serbia?
Check the package's coverage: because Serbia is not an EU member, many Europe packages leave it out. Our regional Europe eSIM does cover Serbia; if you are only going to Belgrade, the country package is usually the better value.
Do I need internet for taxis and getting around?
In practice, yes. In Belgrade, calling a taxi by app is both safer and cheaper than hailing one in the street; public transport and restaurant bookings run on the phone too. A weekend without internet is a weekend spent hunting for hotel Wi-Fi.
Do I need to delete the eSIM when I get home?
No. When the package expires, the eSIM simply goes quiet; keeping it on your phone costs nothing. If you go back soon, you can add a top-up to it; an eSIM left without a package for a long time is closed on the operator's side, in which case you simply buy a new eSIM for the next trip.
